Falcons Fall by 2 to D1 Powerhouse Canton-McKinley
Sunday Jan.08th Lutheran East vs. Canton McKinley
The Falcons went into this morning's contest knowing very little about their opponent. It was just three days prior that Lutheran East received a phone call asking them play division 1 powerhouse Canton McKinley after receiving word that Mentor High School had dropped out of the play by play classic. The Falcons which had been looking to add one additional game to their schedule gladly accepted. From the opening tip, Lutheran East came out energized and ready to compete. Although the game was filled with multiple lead changes, it was the Falcons who led by one point with 30 seconds left to play in regulation. But on the ensuing position, McKinley hit a go ahead jump shot from 18ft to give the bulldogs a one point lead with 15 seconds left to play. The next position for Lutheran East resulted in a turnover and the falcons were forced to foul. McKinley split a pair of free throws which gave them a 68-66 lead with 7.5 seconds remaining. The Falcons had one final chance to either tie the game with a two point basket or win it all with a three. Unfortunately a last second three point attempt was blocked and the Falcons walked away with a 68-66 loss. Next up for Lutheran East is a Wednesday night home game against John Marshall.
