African-American History Month Kick-off

We are pleased to celebrate the fact that we are able to take our ninth and tenth grade students to see the movie Selma.  Last week we were only able to take the juniors and seniors because of schedule changes, and so we are excited to take the remainder of the students who wish to see this pivotal film.  We look happily toward Monday, February 2nd which brings with it Black History Month.  Both Mr. Courtney and Mrs. Chiles enjoy taking time during this month to focus on African American achievement in the United States and the world at large.  It is vital that our students see as many positive role models as possible.

With the world trying to pull our young people in various directions, we hope that this month will be a renewing of students’ understanding of how much God has blessed them with in regard to the gifts and talents they have to use in the world.  What better role model for them to look to than the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.!  Having so many of our student body able to attend the movie will provide the perfect springboard into great discussions about how we each have a responsibility not to waste what God has given us-- to accomplish His plan in the world.
