Space Transformed: The Falcon Gymnasium
Space Transformed: The Falcon Gymnasium

Progress usually happens at a very deliberate pace even though it can appear to come about all at once. Over the last five years there’s been a lot of progress with our gym renovations, although you might not have noticed them until very recently. The progress began when a buckling wall was repaired and a leaky roof was patched. The repairs were critical and important, but not high profile. With the roof and walls in good shape it was time to update the outdated lighting with new energy efficient fixtures and bulbs. We could then begin the real fun which started last summer when crews painted the walls and ceiling giving the entire space a fresh look, everything that was except for the gymnasium floor. That marque project, however, was slated for Christmas break so that when our students returned from their holiday they’d be greeted with a “new” gym.

Expectations for the gym floor were high and those expectations have been exceeded! It took crews two weeks, more sandpaper than you can imagine, and a vision for bringing new life into an well used gym. Thank you to everyone who contributed to make that dream a reality. The gym renovation project is part of a larger vision called the “Lutheran East Special Projects Initiative” aimed at making needed facility improvements throughout our campus.

You can see the effort that it took to transform Falcon Gymnasium by clicking on this link for a 3 minute time-lapse video that shows the story from start to finish! If you’re in the area and would like to see the gym floor and other improvements happening at 3565 Mayfield Road in person, let me know and I’d be happy to show you around!
