Special Projects 2016: An Update!
Special Projects 2016: An Update!

“Now is the time.” Those words kickstarted Lutheran East’s 2016 Special Projects Campaign and after months of hard work and generous donations, we want to say thank you! We want to also highlight some of the early successes of this campaign and give you an idea of what’s to come! The 2016 campaign is tackling some very visible needs: the main entryway to the school, the sign on Mayfield Road, improvements to the gymnasium and bathrooms, while also fixing or replacing the remaining roofs. There’s a lot of work ahead of us but with over $250,000 pledged or raised, progress is being made!

Nowhere is that progress more visible to the broader community than along Mayfield Road where passersby will see our new digital sign reflecting the 21st century learning taking place in our classrooms. The architects have drawn up plans for a new main entryway that will invite and welcome our students and visitors alike into our school. The work on that project will begin this spring, while other work will be completed during the winter months. A key asset of our building is the gymnasium which has been ready for a new look for many years. We’re happy to report that over the summer the entire gym was repainted giving the old space new life, and over Christmas break the floor is going to be stripped, repainted, and refinished to totally transform the home of the Falcons!

A less glamorous improvement, but one that’s exciting for me, has been the systematic replacement of our aging roofs. The Lutheran East campus has 13 different roofs and it’s a real credit to the original craftsmanship of our facilities that many of the original roofs have continued to keep the weather out. However, leaks are inevitable and when they’ve gotten beyond the point of simple repairs, and thanks to your generosity, we’ve been able to replace them. The replacement of various roofs over the years has typically has gone unnoticed, that is until the roof above the main classrooms was replaced just a few months ago. This work garnered so much attention because it also meant the once boarded over skylights in each stairwell were replaced and for the first time in decades they let the sun shine through filling the space with natural light!

Work is going to continue! Improvements are going to be made! And students lives are going to be changed through the quality Christ-centered education offered at 3565 Mayfield Road. Thank you for your support and to God be the glory!
