Falcons Secure 5th State Title in Boys' Basketball
Lutheran East Boys’ Basketball Secures
Program’s 5th State Championship

April 2024

The Falcons boys’ varsity basketball program has earned its 5th state championship title (its 3rd in the past 4 years) with a 45-36 victory in the Division III final over Harvest Preparatory School (Canal Winchester, OH) on Sunday, March 24 at The University of Dayton Arena.

Senior Jesse McCulloch, 2024 finalist for the Ohio Mr. Basketball title and Michigan State University commit, scored 22% of the total points scored by both teams combined in the game.

Head Coach Sam Liggins ‘05 expressed gratitude to the entire Lutheran East school community, telling Spectrum News 1, “That [winning the championship] was always the goal. It’s a testament to our entire school. You don’t achieve any of that without that kind of support.”

Liggins was a member of the school’s 2005 state championship team.

The team won its semifinal game 63-44 over Preble Shawnee (Camden, OH) on Friday, April 22.
