Lutheran East Men’s Basketball Makes History with 4th Consecutive State Title

Last weekend, our Lutheran East Falcons made history in the State of Ohio with their state championship victory over Columbus Academy: no other school has ever won four consecutive state titles.

After navigating a deliberately demanding schedule to finish 18–2 in the regular season (25–2 overall), the Falcons went on to secure their ninth consecutive regional championship with a 65–35 win over Canton Central Catholic on March 14.

Head Coach Sam Liggins, Lutheran East Class of 2005, says, “If you’re going to go for something unprecedented, you’ve got to challenge yourselves. We set up our schedule this year to give our kids as much challenge and adversity as possible – we didn’t shy away from that. And we think that approach paid off.”

In Dayton, the Falcons played their Division V state semi-final game on Friday 3/20, taking on The Summit Day School (Cincinnati) and securing their spot in the finals with a 38-27 victory.

Saturday’s championship game saw the Falcons matched up with Columbus Academy – their 50-36 victory made them the only team in the history of the OHSAA state tournament to win four consecutive state titles.

Athletic Director Anthony Jones reflects, “We were sure we had another team this year that had a real shot at winning it all – but nothing is ever a given. We had to work incredibly hard to make this happen, and I couldn’t be prouder of our coaches and our players for their determination.”

The Lutheran East 2025-2026 varsity team’s regular starters consisted of one freshman, one sophomore and three juniors, setting the program up for another strong showing next year.

Join us in congratulating our Falcons on not only another state championship title, but a history-making win!
